An End of Days

(McDonald)

Waiting for the end you breathe again,
You look up to the sky as blue as I.
I want to yell out loud, 'Don't go, Don't go!'
But I'm begging you to let go.

We don't have to talk; 'Just be near'
I can't remember when I last held your hand -
It must have been when I was a child.
There's no time, the sand is all but run through.

I must be strong though I'm afraid;
I must be brave enough.
I cannot run, I cannot hide
Until I understand.

Amen, so let it be:
An end of days has come to be.
No hallelujahs, no whispered prayers
Can ever bring you back to me.

This silence is loud, we're all of a hush
And in this moment I'm in awe of your grace;
Breathing your presence, stealing each breath,
No time for sadness but it weeps from every pore.

I must be strong though I'm afraid;
I must be brave enough.
I cannot run, I cannot hide
What I don't understand.

Amen, so let it be:
An end of days has come to be.
No hallelujahs, no whispered prayers
Can ever bring you back to me.

You brought me into this world and
Now I watch as you leave mine.
Promise me this:
You'll come for me when it's my time.
